He’s an animal. I’m very proud.
I hit 2 PR’s on my squat today. I tied it at 175, then made 180 for 1 and went on to 185 for 1. They’re ugly but hey….I got em!
One of the things that always comes up when I think about WHY I exercise, specifically lifting (heavy) weights, is that I want to set a good example for my girls. I have no idea how things will go for them as they grow up, but I want to help them as much as I can. I want them to have confidence and a positive self image. I want them to be strong, and love that they are strong. I love when they pull up their sleeves to show us their muscles nearly every very day. They want to jump up on the chin up bar and practice, like they see me do. I’m sure it won’t last, but we’re trying to engrain it in them as much as we can and hope some of it sticks.
Ben and I are starting to buy equipment for what will soon be our basement (and someday garage) gym. One day we were talking about the timing of when we would train and what we would do with the kids. Ben went out of his way to say “I want them to see us lifting”. It reminded me why I’m doing this. It is for them. Not just so they can have healthy parents, but so they can learn (and hopefully WANT) to be healthy too.
Martin Rooney is a well respected and successful strength and conditioning coach. His daughter, Sophia, is a perfect example of what I hope Natalie and Samantha can grow up to be. They’ve made these videos and are spreading them around. I love them. Enjoy.
Should’ve had 3….
